Suffering from restless legs (RLS)?
Restless legs is a neurological condition in which there is an uncontrollable restlessness in the legs. The feeling of moving the legs compulsively to get rid of an annoying tingling sensation in the legs. These symptoms are very annoying, but cannot cause any harm.

Symptoms of restless legs (restless legs)

Symptoms appear mainly in the evening and at night, such as tingling, tingling or an unpleasant feeling in the lower legs. In addition, you feel an uncontrollable restlessness in the legs: you 'have' to move to get rid of the unpleasant feeling.
Lying quietly is difficult and during sleep, the legs sometimes make jerky movements.

Sleep quality often suffers as a result; during the day, you feel tired or sleepy.
The symptoms are often most intense just before falling asleep.
Restless legs can also bother you if you sit for a long time. For example, in a bus, cinema or plane.

Causes of restless legs
The cause of restless legs is rather unclear. However, it does appear that older people suffer from it more often and that it occurs more in women than men. The condition can have a number of causes:
  • pregnancy
  • medication (some anti-depressants or psychosis drugs)
  • impaired functioning of the kidneys
  • Symptoms may be made worse by:
  • smoking
  • alcohol
  • coffee
  • being overweight
  • little exercise

The above should therefore not be taken or taken in moderation, more exercise is also advised, but not intensive exercise in the evening.

Treatment of restless legs
Treatment with drugs is generally not recommended. This is because they do not help much and have quite a few side effects. If the symptoms are really severe, however, treatment can be considered. Dopamine agonists (such as ropinirol or pramipexole ) can sometimes help, but bear in mind that only 1 in 5 people will have their symptoms reduced.

These drugs have many side effects, especially in the beginning, such as nausea, dizziness and drowsiness. With longer use, restless legs can actually get worse: the symptoms spread to other parts of the body, start earlier in the day or become more severe.

The alternative: hemp patches
Cannabinoids is an endogenous substance produced by the body in small amounts. The human body has a very elaborate endocannabinoid system (ECS). Cannabinoids activates cannabinoid receptors (CB receptors) in the body. Meanwhile, there is increasing scientific evidence that cannabinoids is a very effective drug to use for a variety of applications.

In particular, cannabinoids anti-inflammatory and anti-pain effects are central to this. Moreover: Hemp patches are 100% natural, does not cause addiction and has no side effects.
