Using CBD for rheumatism
The body has an endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for, among other things, experiencing pain stimuli. The moment this system is out of balance, pain stimuli may be transmitted in the wrong way, resulting in more pain being experienced. The cannabinoids from the cannabis plant are very similar to your body's own cannabinoids. This ingredient is found in CBD oil. By using CBD oil for rheumatism, the cannabinoids in the body can be replenished. This gives your system a boost and brings it back into balance. CBD oil can also attenuate pain impulses that are transmitted too strongly, and the natural dietary supplement has a positive impact on the quality of sleep and your mood.
What exactly is rheumatism?
Rheumatism is a collective term for more than 100 different disorders of joints, muscles and tendons. The disease is often associated with older people, but it occurs within almost all age groups. About 2 million Dutch people suffer from pain and stiffness every day due to the disease. It is a chronic condition, most forms of which are treatable but not curable. Rheumatism can be divided into three groups:
- Inflammatory rheumatism
- Osteoarthritis
- Soft tissue rheumatism
What is CBD?
CBD (cannabidiol) is a substance found in cannabis. Because of this, many people think it is possible to get high from CBD, but there is another substance responsible for this, namely THC. CBD products contain a negligible amount of THC and are therefore just legally available. CBD is very similar to bodily substances and is therefore well absorbed by the body.
What does CBD do for rheumatoid arthritis patients?
The reason CBD can provide relief from pain and stiffness is because the natural substance acts on the body's own cannabinoid system. This system plays a role in cognitive function, immune system and motor control, among other things. In the case of rheumatoid arthritis, CBD not only helps inhibit inflammation, but also makes sure that pain symptoms arrive less strongly at the brain. As a result, it acts as a natural painkiller, so to speak. Several scientific studies have been conducted on the influence of CBD on rheumatism. These show, among other things, that CBD can bind to CB2 receptors. Also, CBD can prompt the body to produce endocannabinoids that bind to CB2 receptors, thus counteracting inflammation.
